The short film Tribute to Marc Rebillet’s Coffee started with a simple Slack message from Olaf van Gerwen: “This sounds like fun, can you do something with this?” Attached was Marc Rebillet’s song Coffee, a fast-paced, eccentric ode to caffeine.
Directors Erik de Koning and Kristy Snell immediately saw its potential and brought me on board to help turn chaos into creativity.
Together, we designed a shot list that captured Rebillet’s quirky energy.
I brought my love for LEGO to life with a stop-motion coffee drop, while Erik’s liquid wizardry and Kristy’s playful jelly coffee drops added to the madness.
Tristen McKenzie, our Retoucher, fully committed by transforming into a Rebillet doppelgänger, complete with underwear antics.
To match the song’s breakneck pace, we combined techniques like high-speed filming, stop motion, and old-school trick photography.
I edited the film to hit every beat, blending the chaotic elements seamlessly.
Meanwhile, Erik snuck in a Wilhelm scream Easter egg, and Kristy sculpted clay mouths for a lip-syncing coffee bean.
With a thrifted set of mismatched coffee cups and an over-caffeinated crew, we created a tribute as wild and funny as the song itself—a testament to teamwork, creativity, and way too much espresso.
